Cleaning and Prevention

Dentistry is built on prevention. It's recommended that all patients visit the dentist at least once a year for a cleaning and examination. Regular checkups not only help address dental issues before they escalate but also maintain healthy gums and polished teeth. Hard plaque beneath your gums can't be eliminated by regular brushing and flossing alone. Professional scaling is the most effective method to remove harmful plaque. Our professional cleaning includes fluoride treatment and polishing to safeguard and soothe your teeth and gums. Even if you haven't kept up with regular gum maintenance or checkups, it's never too late to prioritize your dental health.

Brushing

Careful and frequent brushing with a soft toothbrush helps prevent the build-up of plaque and bacteria on the teeth. While electronic toothbrushes were initially recommended for individuals with strength or dexterity issues in their hands, they are now widely used. Electric toothbrushes are more effective than conventional manual toothbrushes at reducing plaque formation and gingivitis.

In addition to brushing, cleaning between teeth helps prevent the build-up of plaque bacteria. This can be achieved with floss or inter-dental brushes.

It's important to note that 80% of cavities occur in the grooves, pits, and fissures of the chewing surfaces of the teeth. However, there is currently no evidence showing that regular at-home flossing reduces the risk of cavities in these areas.

Supplementary tools or appliances may be used to enhance tooth brushing and inter-dental cleaning. These include special toothpicks, irrigation tools, and other devices.

Professional teeth cleaning

Teeth cleaning, also known as prophylaxis, is a preventive treatment for dental disease. It involves the removal of tartar (mineralized plaque) that can develop despite regular brushing and flossing, especially in hard-to-reach areas. Professional cleaning includes tooth scaling, polishing, and debridement if excessive tartar has accumulated. This process utilizes various instruments to loosen and remove deposits from the teeth.

Most dental hygienists recommend professional cleaning every six months, with more frequent sessions possibly required during the treatment of dental or oral disorders. Routine examination of the teeth, including selective dental x-rays, is advised at least once a year. Good oral hygiene practices help prevent cavities, tartar build-up, and gum disease.
